The Trans-Carbon Habitat conference has been designed by Joana Mourão and Nadir Bonaccorso, two researchers based in Portugal who share qualifications, works, and interests in the “beyond sustainability” thinking, aimed at the regeneration of human habitats. This field of architecture is relatively new and has yet to garner widespread academic interest in Portugal. Our goal in organizing this event is to promote literacy and understanding through circular thinking.
We aim to foster a collaborative and insightful experience with the support of CiTUA, the organizational and scientific committees, our invited speakers, and all participants.
Together, we will explore how architecture, urban planning, design, and related public policies can contribute to climate positivity and resilience, understanding and controlling carbon as a tool for a viable and fair “ecological transition.” This event will not only address current challenges but also pave the way for a new methodology in building habitats that are regenerative, adaptive, and centered around nature.
We acknowledge the active participation of Rachel Armstrong (keynote speaker), who has enhanced the conference by working with us to create an accelerator forum for advancing trans-carbon habitat contributions in both academia and practice.
