On 22 July 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Museu DecIvil at Instituto Superior Técnico will host a new session of the IST CiTUA ARCH TALKS Summer 2026 series with Gianluca Buoncore (University of Florence), presenting the lecture “The Architecture of the Sacred between the Tangible and Intangible | Twentieth Century Experiences in Italy, Spain and Germany”.
Gianluca Buoncore is an architect, PhD, and Adjunct Professor of Architectural Design at the University of Florence and the Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Tirana. He obtained his PhD with honors at DIDA (Department of Architecture, University of Florence), exploring the relationships between space, light, and 20th-century sacred architecture, with a focus on the architect Giuseppe Vaccaro. Alongside teaching and international research, he carries out extensive scientific and editorial activities, serving on the editorial board of in_bo. Ricerche e progetti per il territorio, la città e l’architettura, an international scientific journal of the University of Bologna. Actively engaged in the safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, he served as the National President of the Italian Youth Association for UNESCO (AIGU) from 2023 to 2026. He is a member of the “The Construction of Light” Research Unit at DIDA and the Research Center on Mediterranean Architecture at the Catholic University “Our Lady of Good Counsel” in Tirana. He is also a member of ProArch, the national scientific society of professors of Architectural Design.
