IST CiTUA: ⁠ ARCH TALKS | PhD Week Fall Alba Zarza Arribas — Cross-cutting relationships between the arts: Cinema as a document of architecture.

On Thursday, 9 October, 12:00–13:00, CiTUA will host Professor Alba Zarza Arribas at the DECivil Museum for a talk on “Housing Policies in the Iberian Peninsula in the 20th Century,” sharing her recent work on housing strategies and programmes across Portugal and Spain.

About the speaker:
Alba Zarza Arribas is an architect (B.A. in Fundamentals of Architecture, 2015; M.Arch., 2016) and holds a PhD in Architecture (2023) from the University of Valladolid (Spain). She is also a Specialist in the History and Aesthetics of Cinematography (2020) and in Advanced Technologies for the Management and Documentation of Cultural Heritage (2025). She has carried out research at the Department of Theory of Architecture and Architectural Projects (University of Valladolid), CEAA | Centro de Estudos Arnaldo Araújo (ESAP, Porto), and DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte (ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon), and participated in the European projects MODSCAPES – Modernist Reinventions of the Rural Landscape (HERA 15.097) and ReARQ.IB (ERC Starting Grant GA949686). She is currently an Assistant Professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Spain). Since 2023 she has been a member of IUU | University Institute of Urban Studies, and since 2025 of the CTRI – Tordesillas Centre for Relations with Ibero-America and the Brazil Chair at the University of Valladolid. Her research focuses on architectural history, public building policies, and the intersections between architecture and cinema across the Iberian Peninsula in the twentieth century.
